My cousin Joanne

Lyrics and melody by James Damiano

Although the studio was paid in full before the start of this recording, the vocal track was never added. to the music

After a torturous 36 hour studio session  of mixing the vocal track the engineer looked at James and said "would you like to hear how good it could sound?. James looked at "Phil" (The engineer) with a puzzled look and said "What do you Mean" and Phil responded by saying "watch. "

Phil suddenly started working with all the sliders on the board turning them up and down and adding reverb and effects to all the tracks. Within ten minutes the mix sounded perfect. James looked at  Phil and said  "what the hells going on" Lets put it down to two track tape.

Phil replied "They told me not to give it to you" James replied "what do you mean I paid for this" Phil replied "Brian told me not to give it to you" James replied "why?"

Phil said I don't know Brian just told me that CBS told him not not to give it to you"

Brian who owned the studio was in contact with CBS through out the recording sessions. The vocal track never got added

My Cousin Joanne Lyrics and melody by James Damiano

Met a lot of people
Most more good than bad
Most I trust
Life as such
And they all seem so sad
Some of them are living
Some of them so mad
Some of them don't worry
Most don't give a damn
But my cousin Joanne
My Cousin Joanne
When I'm down
I go to see
My cousin Joanne
My cousin Joanne
My Cousin Joanne
When I'm down
I go to see
My cousin Joanne
You might be a subway rider
Lost down at E and sixth
All night long
The right the wrong
The saxophones and clarinets
And who knows who knows more
Or who's better
Well talk later about respect
All night long
The right the wrong
The saxophones and clarinets

My cousin Joanne
My cousin Joanne
My Cousin Joanne
When I'm down
I go to see
My cousin Joanne
When Im down
I go to see
My cousin Joanne
He talked of Philosophy
Spoke of theology
And about
The worlds wants and needs
Quoted some scripture
But I knew of his doings
Yet his possessions
Emphasized his greed
I had not much to say
But that gone was another day
Wanted to believe he
Spoke from the heart
I stared into his eyes
Couldn’t see the lies
But I really
Wasn’t trying that hard
He wanted to buy
my future
The thing I need most
Made me fell like I was
Someone
But I was to
Proud to boast
So I stood up from the table
held out my drink
Started to dream up a toast
Lied through my teeth
It was all I could do
As I pronounce myself
The host
getting up in age
Closer to a fit
Of rage
All all he really wanted was
To read just one more page
Well now he’s dead
And it doesn’t matter
All that talk and
Chitter chatter
When I’m down
I go and see
My cousin Joanne
My cousin Joanne
My Cousin Joanne
When I'm down
I go to see
My cousin Joanne
